A standard 2:1 syrup infused with lavender and orange blossom water that adds a floral bite to any cocktail.

Syrup and bitters---some of the more fun ingredients that are easy to make yourself and to change from drink to drink or day to day. You can change the bitters and syrup in the same drink over time to make it seem like something completely different.

I started making syrups long before I delved into the world of craft cocktails. Syrups can be poured over baked goods, meats, cheeses, and ice creams---not just used in beverages.

Lavender Orange Blossom Syrup

Small handful of lavender

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup water

1/2 tsp orange blossom water

Immersion infusing basket

Add the lavender to a small pot.

Cover with sugar and water.

Stir together over medium heat until fully combine.

Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and boil for just a few minutes.

Remove from heat.

Add orange blossom water and stir.

Allow to cool slightly until it's not hot to the touch.

Pour syrup into glass jar or bottle through the immersion infusing basket to collect the lavender.

Seal the basket and immerse the basket in the syrup.

Allow to cool on the counter; once cool, refrigerate.

Leave lavender immersed in basket to taste; you can remove it after a few hours or a few days.
